Super Awesome Garage Rock: Revival Playlist #3
In celebration of the currently happening Firecracker 500 Festival, Shopgirl Anna put together this sunny, summer-appropriate Super Awesome Garage Rock Playlist (if she does say so herself). In the Shopgirl's own words,
"I have always loved me some garage rock, especially old stuff that just makes you want to drink beer and dance. Some of my list faves include "Are you a Boy or a Girl" by the Barbarians and "Ana" by Los Saicos because my name is Shopgirl Anna and I am pretty vain. I picked "I Think We are Alone Now" because the 13 year old that lives inside me made me do it."
Please note that Shopgirl Anna wore her absolute favorite MC5 t-shirt she recently scored at Revival while making this playlist.
All we can hope is that it inspires you to head to Gabe's tonight and see Liberty Leg (along with tons of other fantastic Firecracker 500 bands).

Thursday Drool: BAGGU's Leather Bucket Bag
We know, we know. We Shopgirls just LOVE to talk about Baggu. First Baggu backpacks (no, seriously they are the best bike riding bags ever), then the totes (get it for the pool, friends), then the leather (oh that beautiful leather!)...
Shopgirl Anna heard tell of the possibility of a leather bucket bag (the greatest of all bag shapes). Here it finally is in tan.
No leather bucket bags available at Revival yet, but come in and check out their fantastic canvas bags and leather pouches.
Sorry, we have to talk later. We are too busy drooling.

Shopgirls Travel: Coney Island's Mermaid Parade
Today is the 30th Annual Mermaid Parade in Coney Island, New York. This glittery costume extravaganza is a great example of the magic of Coney Island. New Yorkers dressing up for no reason at all, except to be fabulous. Who can argue with that?
Here are a few pics from Mermaid Parade 2010 (something we like to call Fish Bits).
Wish I was there :( Cheers Coney Island....

Shopgirl Hannah Just Wants to Dance! Revival Playlist #2!
Poor Shopgirl Hannah
:( Possessing a love for sixties and seventies fashion and an
undeniable affinity for that sweet, sweet soul music, this gal was
clearly born in the wrong era. Known for her 'aerobic dancing skills,'
Shopgirl Hannah was once described (by a true authority) as grooving
just like Tina Turner...
Let our girl tell you in her own words about her Sweet Soul Playlist (with a little Three Dog Night thrown in there just for fun)...
Friends...you have been warned.
Let our girl tell you in her own words about her Sweet Soul Playlist (with a little Three Dog Night thrown in there just for fun)...
"This is a 70s inspired playlist designed to induce nostalgia and get you out on the dance floor or up in front of the juke box. In fact, please get up in front of the juke box at the Mill because Shopgirl Anna and I are sick of having 2 person dance parties. Please note I am not liable for any dancing related injuries such as breaking ones own glass on the dance floor from enthusiastic dance moves, and then stepping on it"
Friends...you have been warned.

Shopgirl Recs. Hearth: A Review!
Hearth, sister restaurant to 126 and Moonraker's Gastropub, is a cozy little place located above Zephyr copies on East Washington Street. I came here recently with my husband for an early dinner and the food was excellent.
The space is small and simple with cream and brick walls, a pitch black ceiling and white table cloths with tea lights at every table-- great for a date night or other special occasion.. There's also a room in the back that's open for private parties (we had Revival's Christmas party there one year). The menu consists of small plates like vegetable samosas with mint coriander chutney, Italian wood-fired pizzas (all of which are fantastic), a few salads, a selection of cheeses and charcuterie (smoked/cured meats), and a nice selection of entrees with dishes ranging from housemade gnocchi to pork vindaloo.
We came on a Friday and were seated at a nice little table for two. To drink we had Matildas, Goose Island's quite strong and tasty Belgian style pale ale, although they definitely have a very nice wine selection. Everything on the menu looked good but also pricey so we left out the small plates and greens and the lovely cheeses and went straight for the entrees. I had the pork vindaloo en croute; a perfectly spiced, slightly sweet pork stew baked in a buttery pastry crust. It's incredibly good. My husband had the Alsatian tart which is baked in their wood burning oven and topped with caramelized onion, bacon, and Gruyere cheese. Very tasty. Overall we had a great experience, friendly and attentive service and excellent food.
The only thing I could have done without was how the noise level rose as the seats filled up. There isn't much in the room to absorb the sound and towards the end of our meal it was admittedly a little difficult to concentrate on our conversation and not the conversation of the couple next to us.
But, whatever... go to Hearth, enjoy!
